Networking line rates are increasing to 100GE and beyond and the rate of line rate increase is much higher than what it has been over the past decade. Line card rates have been increasing over the years. 1GE was adopted in year 2000, 10GE in 2005 and 100GE in 2010. This trend is expected to continue with line card rates expected to reach 200GE, 400GE upto 1TE by 2015.
